Tattoo license in CA?

Butterfly_Nirvana asked:

What exactly is the law/rules for getting a tattoo license (to become a professional tattoo artist, not shop owner) in the state of California? More precisely, Santa Rosa California? How many months apprentice-ship, school, certifications, etc etc??? Thanks!

I am not answering this question….just replying to a question of mine you answered. Yes, I am qualified for AP Psych and I am afraid you are mislead in the way you read my question. I am talking about people who have the talent to act (yes, acting takes unaccquirable talent), not the people who act as thier job. I should have clarified that to begin with.

None as far as I know. Just be an employee of the owner of the shop. That is how it worked with my brother, no license required, that is in Modesto, Ca. though.

lol. MONTHS of apprenticeship? I **** to disappoint you, but it takes years. Tattooing is not something you can just jump into and be good at in a few months.

i tattoo in ventura county and to get licenced you just need to pay for a health permint ($130?) and a business licence. the licence really has nothing to do with any training though… no test or anything. i know that it’s different for LA county so it might be different for you. as far as a learning i think the only legit way is through an apprenticeship. mine took about 8 months.

I am looking for the specific law governing tatoo parlors with regard to age. Does anyone have a reference?
