A group of 40 local citizens wish to form an organization , Citizens Against Corrupt Cops.
We are willing to contribute shared financial resources , professional expertise and experience , time and volunteer work. No one gets salary. You contribute for free what you can to organiztion in terms of times.
We want to take on figuring out how to control our cops / challenge some practices / laws.
We will purchase attorneys / media advertsing and try to attract other lilke minded membership / campaign sort of contributions ? To continue to fund our mission statement and vision of future operations ?
We also need to have a bank account / accountant . Probably as first expenses with attorneys . Do we need public or private corporations .
We hope to be as successful as MADD .. Mothers Against Drunk Driving was to change laws regarding corroptuion in police.

You’re most likely a nonprofit, and you’ll definitely need an accountant. Most countries have disclosure laws for charities and nonprofits, so any accountant you hire will need to be able to handle this.
I like About.com for general guidance on starting types of businesses — it will give you a better idea of what you need to apply, or how to structure your org better.
If you can, check with other more established charity groups for advice as well.
Dear Mildred,
Its nice to hear from you concerned citizen who act on their own to prevent corruption in our society.
But we are in banking business. I post this to invite local investors who are interested in Banking esp. Rural Banking
Thanks,
Dr. Rogelio Dazo, Jr.
Based on the information provided, you are forming a grass roots community organization that should be structured as a nonprofit. That means that you should 1) contact your secretary of state request the articles of incorporation for a nonprofit corporation 2) you will have to elect a board of directors 3) apply for a federal tax identification number (ask the irs for the ss4 form) 4) apply for tax exemption status with the irs using form 1023.
I advise you to speak with a local attorney so that he/she can provide additional details on the legal aspects of each of these steps.
