You say you got a DisHonorable Discharge and do not know how it will effect you BS!!! If you even knew what it actually takes to get one, you would know you just ain’t going to find people in that position and not knowing. Guys is BCD are ALL fully aware of what that means, which is not as bad as a DHD.

But to answer the question, it WILL show up on any employer background check. It is considered a Felony Conviction. It cannot be appealed after a certain time, it is a judicial proceeding. That whole idea of changing crap is a Myth any ways. In order to have anything in your record changed requires it to be reviewed by a Review Board, ABSOLUTE Evidence of something wrong must be seen for them to recommend it, which still does not guarantee it will be changed. Review Boards VERY VERY rarely change anything, and usually it is small stuff. A DHD, for one they do not have the authority, a two a panel of your peers already has said you already majorly screwed the pooch.Yes you can appeal, but you would only get laughed at!

Well, first you probably already know that you can appeal that after a few years, maybe 5, but ask personnel about that, and they will usually give you at least an general discharge or maybe an other than honorable on review. Shouldn’t effect boxing, but it would likely effect work in any professional field. It’s not like the old days, people do background checks for credit, criminal, everything now. I’m not sure if background checks are able to grab a dishonorable or not.

Are you sure you received a Dishonorable Discharge? The only way you would get that is if you were discharged after a conviction from a General Court-Martial. I rarely see people get court-martialed for fighting except when they assault their superiors and everybody else usually gets NJP for it. I’m not sure about your situation. If you wasn’t court-martialed (as in you was chaptered after getting an Article 15) then the lowest discharge you can get is an Other Than Honorable. You need to check your DD 214 to see what you was actually given.

As for the employer, you won’t know until you get interviewed and tell them what you was released for. There is no law requiring you to be denied employment on the basis of your discharge (although if you got a BCD or Dishonorable you can’t get jobs that would reject anybody with a felony on their record) but most employees look at your discharge and use it as a basis on what kind of person you are. Some employees use it as more weight than others.

Your discharge is your own personal issue I won’t judge you one that. Now considering your options, you are a felon. A dishonorable discharge is a felony charge you can never vote nor ever own a firearm sorry that’s the way it is. Your employment opportunities, as far as any government employment you cannot or will not be hired. Including law enforcement. As a boxer no but I would try and keep that secret. You can still work for private institutions but you will have to let your employer know when you fill out an application. Your degrees are your and they will not be taken away. are you sure it was Dishonorable? you still have VA benefits, check into it. It sounds like more than what you are giving here is involved. Your degrees will remain intact. all you can do is apply and see. if you went to court martial then it is a federal charge. Why would it affect your boxing career? You are asking alot of uneducated questions for a man 2 years short of a PhD.

It shouldn’t affect your career unless you go government or state… (I wouldn’t even bring up military then).

Other than that, no one has to know. It doesn’t go on your police record but it might limit you on federal aid programs…
